Unveiling of Abbé Pierre’s statue at the Foundation Abbé Pierre’s headquarters in Paris.
Created by Jean-Marc de Pas, sculptor born in Rouen in 1962, PhD in Art Philosophy and Art Sciences, graduate of the Beaux-arts of Paris and the Ecole Boulle, the bronze statue was unveiled in the presence of numerous personalities such as Raymond Etienne, president of the Foundation, and Patrick Doutreligne, managing director.
In burnished bronze and weighing more than 100 kg, the statue naturally took its place in the entrance and will now receive the general public.
“Creating this statue was a source of joy for me, profound joy. It is also an immense honour: the Abbé Pierre, in addition to his faith, was a role model for many people. A human example of generosity, of rejecting indifference. I think he is also an example for artists, because like him, we also want to add more soul to things, to people, to touch the other…”
Jean-Marc de Pas, who knew the Abbé Pierre personally, carried out the request of the Foundation. The Abbé symbolises the willingness of the Foundation to continue the fight against bad housing and to remain in the heart of the action.
